Hennessy concert comes back with gifted violinist

Nhan Dan Online- The 14th edition of the annual Hennessy concert series will come back with Hanoi connoisseurs in only one night on January 22 at the Hanoi Opera House with the performance of gifted Korean-American violinist Sarah Chang.

Accompanied by Andrew von Oeyen at the piano from the US, the Series will present several classical masterpieces written for the violin and piano by composers such as Johann Brahms and Cesar Franck. In particular, a concerto written by Christopher Theofanidis for violin and piano dedicated to Sarah Chang will be played during the concert.

Violinist Sarah Chang is recognised the world over as one of classical music’s most captivating and gifted performers. Appearing in the music capitals of Asia, Europe and the Americas, she has collaborated with most major orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and many others.

In June 2004, she was given the honour of running with the Olympic Torch in New York, and became the youngest person ever to receive the Hollywood Bowl's Hall of Fame award. The remarkable accomplishments of her career were recognised in 1999 when she received the Avery Fisher Prize, one of the most prestigious awards given to instrumentalists.

Andrew von Oeyen has already established himself as one of the most captivating pianists of his generation. Already commanding an extensive and diverse repertoire, Andrew von Oeyen has had notable success in all of his recent orchestral engagements with world-known orchestras. This performance marks the duo’s first appearance in Vietnam.

The concert will be simulcast via a giant video screen located in the plaza of the Hanoi Opera House and will also be aired nationally on VTV3 in delayed broadcast.

Hennessy Concert Series, which debuted in 1996, is jointly organised by the Performing Arts Agency of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Moet Hennessy.
