Songs praise Vietnamese farmers’ industrious traditions

Nhan Dan Online – The 20 best songs by 14 songwriters on the theme of Vietnamese farmers, agricultural and rural areas were named at a press conference on July 14 in Hanoi.

The 20 songs received the most votes out of 107 songs in a public opinion poll launched in August 2009 by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to celebrate the 65th anniversary of its establishment.

The awards ceremony and a performance of the songs will be held at the Hanoi Opera House on July 22.

A contest to compose songs about Vietnamese farmers, agricultural and rural areas was also organised on the occasion. The contest’s organising board received 207 songs by 82 composers, featuring various types of agricultural production and the industrious tradition of Vietnamese farmer. They also encourage farmers to contribute to the country’s agricultural and rural modernisation process.
