Mong ethnic minority people celebrate lunar New Year festival (Tet)

Nhan Dan Online- Mong ethnic minority people in Son La northern mountainous province normally celebrate their lunar New Year festival (Tet) from lunar November 30 to lunar December 5.

They celebrate their Tet rather simply with worshipping rituals and feasts. The traditional dish during their Tet is banh day (a kind of rice cake). Some others who are better off can have pig for their feast. They perform ritual offerings to the ancestors on the New Year’s Eve on lunar November 30.

They celebrates their Tet until the end of lunar December with various activities such as singing, dancing and folk games and stops all farming work during this time.

A family in Ta So hamlet, Chieng Hac commune, Moc Chau district, Son La province has a pig for their Tet feast.

Spring comes early in Moc Chau Plateau.

Mua A Cua’s family is performing ritual offerings to the ancestors on the New Year’s Eve.

All labour tools are “sealed off” during Tet.
