Nhan Dan Online- Hundreds of musical instruments  are now on display at the exhibition of traditional music instruments from Vietnamese ethnic groups opened last night at the Vietnam Exhibition Centre, Hanoi.

This is the first exhibition on musical instruments of this scale, which aims to introduce to visitors the diversity of Vietnamese musical instruments, so as to hail the traditional culture of Vietnam and preserve the traditional instruments in the community’s spiritual life.

The exhibition displays hundreds of Vietnamese traditional musical instruments, including monochord, bamboo flute, two-chord guitar, 16-chord zither and drums from northern delta and midland provinces as well as unique music instruments of northern mountainous provinces such as cymbals and bamboo panpipe. The instruments come from five main cultural regions of Vietnam, namely northern delta, northern mountainous region, central coastal area, Central highlands and southern Vietnam.

At the opening ceremony, artists from the Vietnam National Music Institute and from other provincial art troupes gave a special performance of traditional music.

The exhibition, which is co-organised by the Vietnam Ethnic Minorities Culture Museum, the National Music Institute, and the Vietnam Exhibition Centre, is part of activities to mark the 80th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the 1,000th anniversary of  Thang Long-Hanoi.
