Nhan Dan – Many activities have been held throughout the country to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the International Women’s Day, March 8.

The Women’s Union of Gia Lai province organised a get-together for Heroic Vietnamese Mothers, People’s Armed Forces Heroes, martyrs’ mothers and wives, revolutionary contributors and other representatives of the province. At the get-together, they reviewed glorious tradition and sacrifice of Gia Lai women in the resistance war for the national liberation and freedom.

On this occasion, the Gia Lai province’s Women’s Union held a tour for 31 retired women to visit Krong revolutionary base in Kbang district where they joined the resistance war and revolutionary activities.

In Thua Thien – Hue province, the Women’s Union of Huong Thuy district held a ceremony to mark the 100th anniversary of the International Women’s Day, 1970th anniversary of the Trung Sisters’ Uprising and receive the Labour Order, the second class.

The Women’s Union of Huong Thuy district has always strived to build and develop the Union and women movements. Many emulation movements have been launched successfully such as: ‘Study and Follow President Ho Chi Minh’s Moral Example’, ‘Days for Poor Women’ and so on.

A grand meeting was held by the Women’s Union of Da Nang city to commend 10 women’s union branches of the city for their outstanding contributions in 2009.

The meeting reviewed glorious tradition and praised great contributions of women to Da Nang city both in the past and at present.

Meanwhile, female workers working at the Tan Thuan export-processing zone joined a programme to celebrate the women’s day which was held by the Women’s Union of Ho Chi Minh City. The programme brought joys to participants who have to leave their hometown for city to work.
